Celebrating Success: MudHen Brewing Company’s World Beer Cup Triumph

In the world of craft brewing, awards are more than just recognition—they show the dedication, skill, and love we pour into every batch. At MudHen Brewing Company, our journey has been all about passion, perseverance, and, of course, great beer. Our recent triumph at the World Beer Cup® is a shining example of this commitment to excellence.

In 2023, our Wee Heavy Wilson, won the Silver Award at the prestigious World Beer Cup® in the Scotch Ale category. It was a moment of immense pride for our team, a validation of our craft, and a nod to the artistry of our Brewmaster, Tony Cunha.

Tony’s journey in brewing is marked by dedication and a relentless pursuit of perfection. A Cape May County native, Tony’s roots run deep in the hospitality industry. From humble beginnings as a homebrewer to honing his skills as an assistant brewer at Rock Bottom Brewery and Restaurant and Sterling Pig Brewery, Tony’s passion for brewing has been unwavering.

But, Tony is not alone in his quest for brewing excellence. Bryan Toland, our Lead Brewer, brings his own unique blend of passion and experience to the table. A Wildwood native,  graduate of Southern New Hampshire University and seasoned member of the Sciarra Restaurant Group, Bryan’s journey to MudHen Brewing Company is fueled by a love for great beer and a desire to craft something truly exceptional.

Another key member of our team is Andrew Slabinski, our Assistant Brewer. His journey from the frozen ponds of the 26th state to the sun-soaked shores of New Jersey via California, is as adventurous as it is inspiring. Andrew’s passion for brewing, honed through years of experimentation and learning, is a testament to the universal language of delicious beer.

Together, Tony, Bryan and Andrew have crafted something truly special with Wee Heavy Wilson. This award-winning Scotch Ale, with its full-bodied malt sweetness and a hint of smoked peat, is a celebration of tradition, craftsmanship, and the sheer joy of brewing.

But the story doesn’t end there! In 2024, lightning struck twice as Wee Heavy Wilson won the Gold Award at the World Beer Cup®, cementing its status as one of the finest Scotch Ales in the world. It’s a moment of triumph for our team, a validation of our craft, and a testament to the unwavering dedication of everyone at MudHen Brewing Company.

As we raise our glasses to toast this incredible achievement, we invite you to join us on this journey of flavor, passion, and innovation. Because at MudHen Brewing Company, every sip is a celebration, and every beer is a testament to the power of great brewing.
